SAICA Membership based on Experience (Pathways to Membership Scheme)

The South African Institute of Chartered Accountants scheme of Pathways to Membership allows fully qualified members (minimum 2 years of full membership for AICPA, CIMA, ICPAK, and ICAI while no additional experience for ICAEW -Pathways candidates)) from certain professional bodies to apply for Membership for SAICA based on their experience. Eligible applicants complete a Competency Self-Assessment document that assesses their achievements, experience, professional approach, skills, and expertise.

Completing the Competency Self-Assessment is an opportunity for the candidate to provide evidence that he/she has gained experience across a range of competencies and has gained a sufficient depth of experience in the prescribed competencies to enable SAICA to grant him/her exemption from the requirement to pass the SAICA APC examination.

After successful completion of the entire procedure and submission of required documents (refer to below sections for details), an applicant will be invited to apply for membership through payment of membership & admission fees and after receiving of invitation to membership from SAICA, the applicant become a member straight away and can use Chartered Accountant South Africa CA(SA) designation. The overall process from submission of the Competency Self-Assessment document and availing of SAICA Membership takes 1-2 months.

Eligibility Requirements

 As a member of one of the bodies listed below, you can register with SAICA as a CA(SA) only after completing certain requirements which vary for the respective body. Applicants can apply for SAICA membership through Pathways if they meet the full eligibility criteria mentioned below.

1) Applicant must be a fully qualified current member holding full membership from one of the bodies listed below.

2) Applicant must have at least two years of full membership of any professional body mentioned above (except for ICAEW as there is no requirement for a minimum of years for full membership)

3) Applicant must have gained membership of that professional body through the normal education and training route (except ICAEW as its membership through pathways route is acceptable)

4) As a fully qualified current member, an applicant is compliant with the continuing professional development (CPD) requirements of the professional body

5) Applicant is a member in good standing with a good disciplinary record and no outstanding complaints against the applicant

Procedure for obtaining SAICA Membership through Examination of Experience

 

To demonstrate that the applicant is qualified by experience, and he/she meets the appropriate criteria for membership in SAICA, the applicant is required to complete the Competency Self-Assessment document that assesses their achievements, experience, professional approach, skills, and expertise.

Completing the Competency Self-Assessment is an opportunity for the candidate to provide evidence that he/she has gained experience across a range of competencies and has gained a sufficient depth of experience in the prescribed competencies to enable SAICA to grant him/her exemption from the requirement to pass the SAICA APC examination.

Competency Self-Assessment consists of a series of competencies (a total of ten), which applicants complete in his/her own time, and submit in the required template format. The questions assess the following aspects.

Compulsory Competencies

  • Professional Conduct
  • Management and Leadership
  • Personal Attributes
  • Information Technology
  • Accounting and External Reporting

Note: ALL applicants are required to provide evidence of ADVANCED EXPERIENCE in ALL of these Compulsory Competency’s areas.

Core competencies

  • Auditing and Assurance
  • Financial Management
  • Management Decision-Making and Control
  • Taxation
  • Risk Management and Governance

Note: Applicants are required to provide evidence of ADVANCED EXPERIENCE in AT LEAST TWO of these competence areas, and BASIC OR INTERMEDIATE EXPERIENCE in relation to the BALANCE of these competence areas

  • Number of online meetings between student and mentor.
  • Number of reviews of student’s work; and

Mentoring Fee:  It is more appropriate for students to organize Free Consultation Session (click here to access Free Consultation Form) with a designated mentor and understand the entire process. We will then quote our fee by taking into consideration the requirements of students in terms of the level of guidance, number of reviews, number of meetings, etc.

Note:

  • Payment Terms: 1st Instalment i.e. 50% of the Package fee after free consultation meeting with mentor while remaining sum before second meeting.
  • Transfer Fee: 7.45% transfer charges apply if you pay through debit/credit card, PayPal.  Our Global Payment Agent charge this amount to secure your transaction and your detail.
  • We don’t demand advance payment from any student as the student has the option to settle fee in two equal instalments.
